How “synful” is that chocolate ?

Skinny Chips is not happy. This week’s slimming class weigh in has left us more than a little upset.

You see weight loss has been slow, steady and consistent. All this “speed” food with Slimming World is working wonders on the waistline and stepping on the scales on a weekly basis has been bliss.

An eight pounds loss over five weeks in the run up to Christmas was announced. A certificate of success was presented and a little shiny sticker was gifted. So all was good with the world. Clothes now fit that never fit before.

But you see the glee this week was short lived because the well intentioned consultant dished out some Christmas advice  after weigh in that involved a favourite chocolate – the “purple rose”. Not to be confused with any other rose in the Cadbury’s box.

It’s the hazelnut, covered in caramel, surrounded in milk chocolate one. You know the one I mean.

Many,  the Christmas argument has been hard fought and won or lost over the elusive “purple rose”.

For those unacquainted with Slimming World it’s important for you to know there are hundreds of foods you can eat to your hearts content and you won’t be penalised for it.

But SW dieters are only permitted five to 15 “syns” per day. Basically sugary snacks, cakes, crisps and chocolates have a Syn value.

So having dieted since February, Skinny Chips had eyes firmly fixed  on a Christmas with more than one or two sneaky “purple roses” in a “syn” binge.

Possibly a complimentary purple rose during a visit to the hairdresser, another one from the reception desk at work, a few while watching the Strictly Come Dancing final.

But the SW consultant informed that the Cadbury’s purple rose has the most syns out of all of the Roses at 3.5 each. Yes that’s right each. So four Purple Roses and you are almost at your daily syn limit. That’s before you’ve contemplated Christmas Pudding or Mince Pies.

The rest of the Cadbury’s Roses range from 2.5 to 3 syns.

But I’m still intent on “freeing some joy” for myself with a handful of Roses…. It is Christmas after all. It would seem rude not to. Look at all the work they put in.

Celebrations – the miniature Bounty, Snickers, Teasers, Twix and Mars are two syns each.  Heroes – miniature Caramel, Dairy Milk, Wispa, Twirl and Fudge are 2.5 syns each.

Now if you are more a “savoury than sweet” type of person there is no mercy for your this Christmas or any other day of the year for that matter.

A lovely long tube of Pringles  (the one with the once you pop you can’t stop warning” )come in at 49.5 syns. Yes indeed. If you are going to open a tube of Pringles you might want to ensure you have someone to share them with or maybe three or four people to share them with at that matter.

If any of Skinny Chips regular reads know the Smart Points of these sweets for our Weight Watchers dieters please share.

Whatever you are treating yourself to from the chocolate and crisps shelf, choose wisely… It is Christmas.
